Wishing you and your family a wonderful start into the Advent season!

Wahrscheinlich bekommt ihr heute nicht, was ihr sonst von mir erwartet. Es geht nicht um Garten. Aber da gibt es auch nicht mehr so viel zu sehen. Am Wochenende wurde “aufgeräumt” und außer bunten Blättern an den Sträuchern blieb nicht so viel übrig.

In unserem kleinen Städtchen gibt es ein riesiges Gelände, auf dem sich eine Spinnerei befand, die bis vor ca. 2 Jahren noch dem Verfall preisgegeben war. Ich bin ganz begeistert, wie diese ehemalige Ruine, restauriert wird. Zwar denke ich, dass es etwas überdimensioniert ist für unsere Stadt, aber es fasziniert mich. Da ich mich nicht nur für Gärten interessiere, sondern auch “moderne” Bauten, nahm ich heute mal die Gelegenheit wahr, dort zu fotografieren.

Mit Spannung erwarte ich den weiteren Ausbau der Gebäude. Ich kann mir sehr gut vorstellen, dass dort auch tolle Lofts entstehen. Es ist den Architekten sehr gut gelungen, das Alte zu bewahren und mit neuen Ideen ein Gelände mit seinen für unsere Stadt historischen Gebäuden, die sonst verfallen wären, für unsere Stadt wieder attraktiv zu restaurieren.

Today you will probably not get what you usually expect from me. It’s not about the garden. However, there isn’t much to see there at the moment. We took the opportunity this weekend to do some “clean-up” and except for colorful leaves on the bushes you’d probably be disappointed if you had a chance to have a look there.

In our small town there is a huge site on which there was a spinning mill once. It was abandoned until about 2 years  ago. I am very excited as this ruin is restored. While I think it is a bit too large of a project for our city, it fascinates me quite a bit. Since I am interested not only in gardens but also “modern” buildings, today I took advantage of the opportunity to take some pictures there.

I eagerly await the further expansion of the other building they are working on at the moment. I can very well imagine that there will be lofts to live in there. So far the architects have succeeded very well restoring the old and using new ideas restoring a site with historic buildings which are important for our city that would otherwise be left to fall into disrepair.

Der Oktober war zu Anfang noch so schön, aber jetzt scheinen wir kurz vor der Sintflut zu sein. Wir hatten letzte Woche alles – von Regen bis Schnee. Es scheint wohl nicht mehr aufzuhören.

October was so nice at the beginning of the month, but now we seem to be drowning. We’ve had everything last week – from rain to snow. It doesn’t seem to want to stop.

Der Bauernkalender mit seinen Regeln sagt: “Wenn am Gallus Regen fällt, er bis Weihnachten anhält. ” Das war der 16. Oktober – na dann – wenn sich das bewahrheitet.

The Farmer’s Almanach in Germany is telling us if rain falls on Gallus day (October 16th), it will stay that way through Christmas. If that’s true .. no telling what’ll happen.

Dennoch gab es schöne Tage und die Bilder will ich euch nicht vorenthalten.

However, there were nice days and I don’t want to withhold those pictures from you.

Wir hatten uns dieses Jahr entschieden, unseren Sommerurlaub in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern zu verbringen. Eigentlich brauche ich ja mindestens ein Mal im Jahr die Nordsee – und vor allem die Insel Langeoog, aber es sollte Richtung Ostdeutschland gehen. Ich war auch sehr lange im Zweifel, ob wir die richtige Wahl getroffen hatten.

We decided to spend our summer vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern this year. Usually, I like to spend some time on our favorite island Langeoog at least once a year, but this time it was meant to be East Germany. I doubted for quite some time that this would be the right choice.

Allerdings war ich andererseits auch sehr neugierig, da ich noch nie in den neuen Bundesländern war. Lange suchte mein Mann nach einer passenden Ferienwohnung, die unseren Ansprüchen genügte. Die Suche hatte sich gelohnt.

On the other hand I was very curious about it since I have never visited our new German states before. For quite some time my husband searched for a nice vacation apartment which would suit our needs. Finally, the search was successful.

Hafen - Harbour

Letztendlich wurden wir in der kleinen Stadt Waren fündig und lebten zwei Wochen lang  in einer wirklich liebevoll eingerichteten Wohnung, ganz in der Nähe vom kleinen Yachthafen und alles Lebenswichtige war schnell per Fuß zu erreichen.

Last but not least we found our apartment in Waren and lived there for two weeks in a really nicely furnished apartment near the small yacht harbour; everything else needed was in walking distance.

Would you believe me, if I told you,  that I was only able to withstand the urge to “dig in the dirt” around our litte patio flowerbed for a couple of days?

Wir waren begeistert. Die Menschen waren allesamt freundlich und der Service in den Geschäften war unbeschreiblich zuvorkommend. Man wurde richtig verwöhnt. Da könnte sich so manches Geschäft, wo wir leben, etwas lernen. 

We were quite excited. The people were so friendly and service-oriented. Actually, we felt quite spoiled.  A lot of the stores where we live could go there to take lessons in customer service. 

 Als Ausgangspunkt für unsere anderen Vorhaben hatten wir mit Waren die richtige Wahl getroffen.

As a starting point for our endevours we really made the right choice.
